In order to create his music, Carmelo Salemi must first gather the reeds donated by mother nature with which to fashion his instrument: the “friscalettu”, the reed flute of the ancient shepherds.
Through the holes in this flute, a passageway between worlds, we can enter into an inner world of simplicity, of authenticity, of a pastoral culture handed down by word of mouth.
It is a sound which rises from the earth, a vibration with an ancient flavour, a breath that comes from afar, that has resonated for over 3000 years within the walls of the valley of Pantalica, as the river Anapo flows gently into tender sunsets.
It is the sound of the stones and the wind, of melodies emerging from the soil amid flowering broom and swarms of bees.
